Description of May Color Plate

The frock shown in design 2016 (below left) is of fine blue serge. The skirt is made in two parts; the lower part is attached to the upper with stitching. The upper part of the front of the skirt drapes slightly over the lower part. The back of the skirt is cut in one with the lower part. It is slightly plaited in the front and fulled in the back, from the top of the high waist-line. The jacket is short across the front and is outlined down the front and across the lower part with shaped bands of the material. The bands lap over the back of the jacket and are finished on the ends with buttons. The back of the jacket extends below the waist line. The waistcoat is of red satin. The belt is of black suede, fastened in the front with a buckle. The collar is of red satin outlined with black satin. The sleeves are seamed to the arm hole; they are three-quarter length and finished below the elbow with a cuff of satin.

The frock illustrated in design 2017 (center) is of red chiffon taffeta. The skirt fastens in the centre of the front under buttons and button loops of taffeta. The drapery in the front of the skirt is held in place with a large bow of taffeta. The skirt is slightly fulled at the top from under a girdle of striped black and white taffeta. A loose panel of red taffeta hangs from the top of the girdle. It is ornamented with buttons of taffeta. The corsage is outlined on each side of the front with bands of black and white taffeta. The back of the corsage is slashed on each side below the shoulders; the bands end under the slashes. The front of the corsage is turned back at the lower part over the black and white bands. The neck is outlined with bands of green taffeta and filled in with draped white net. The corsage is held together in the front above the girdle with taffeta buttons and silk tassels. The neck is outlined on each side with frills of white lace and finished in the back with a standing collar of lace. The sleeve is attached to the arm hole with a seam. It is three-quarter length, and is slashed in the back at the lower part over a frill of white lace.

The frock illustrated in design 2018 (right) is of beige colored crepe poplin. The skirt is draped on the left side. The drapery is held in place with a folded band of blue charmeuse, which is finished at the lower part with buttons of charmeuse. The back of the skirt is held up in the drapery, showing a frill of lace on the lower part of the underskirt. The skirt is full at the upper part from under a girdle of charmeuse. The front of the jacket ends above the waist line. The jacket is slightly fulled on each side of the front from under a fitted band of the material. The bands extend over the arm and end on each side of the back. The jacket ends below the waist line in the back. The neck is finished with a frill of lace. The sleeve is attached to the arm hole with a seam. It is three-quarter length and is slashed at the lower part. A frill of lace shows through the opening. The sleeve is finished with a cuff of the material over a band of charmeuse.
